New for 2016/17:
All players must be registered and paid to play by October 14th to guarantee your child will be assigned to a team. Please note that for some players this date is prior to the try-out date. Credit Card payments will be accepted during registration. Mustang Madness 3v3 Tournament registration may also be completed and paid for through Sports Pilot.
Checks will still be accepted for registration fees and uniform deposit fees will still be required via check/backpack mail.

The uniform deposit check will be returned upon receipt of your students’ complete uniform at the close of the season. Please send all checks through backpack mail to Robyn Rutland c/o Reed 2-1 payable to Mary of Nazareth. Players must be registered online to be considered for a team.
The deadline to register by October 14th is a firm deadline in order to recruit the appropriate number of coaches, reserve gym space and meet the deadline to pay for and submit the correct number of Mary of Nazareth teams for each league. Everyone who registers by the October 14 deadline and attends the appropriate tryout will be placed on a team. There are no "cuts".
Players may attend both the initial and makeup sessions with their higher scores used during team formation. There will be no make-ups for the Rookie Division.

Rookie Division U10 (3rd/4th grade)
Player assessments are for the sole purpose of constructing a fair and balanced team divided by grade and skill. Practices for the Rookie level begin in early December with games beginning in early January. Games take place on Friday nights, Saturdays, and possibly Sundays. Game schedules are not typically known until late December.
Junior Varsity U12 (5th/6th grade) and Varsity U14 (7th/8th grade)
All play at this level is competitive.
Please consider with your child that you are committed to the team practices and games. Due to smaller team sizes in basketball, when 1-2 students are not available to practice or play a game, it puts the whole team in jeopardy of forfeiting a game and disappointing those players that are committed. Basketball also requires practice to learn team plays. If a player consistently cannot make the 1-2 practices a week, they should consider placement on a different team. Please inform the commissioner or Athletic Director as soon as you are aware of any conflicts as this may effect team selection.
The purpose of the tryout at the JV and Varsity levels is to place children at their proper levels of ability. Each division will include an ‘A’ (most competitive) team based on skills assessment, position availability, and coach availability. If a student does not want to be considered for the ‘A’ team, please let the Basketball Commissioner know prior to assessments. Depending on the league of play (non-tournament, tournament or Mid-Atlantic), outside of the ‘A’ team, players will be divided evenly by skill, position, and grade.
Practices for JV division players begins in mid-November with games beginning in early January. Games take place on Saturday or possibly Sundays. Game schedules are not available until mid-December. If you have conflicting activities, please strongly consider whether or not you should try out for the ‘A’ team.

The MoN track team is open to all K-8 students and parish members. Our mission is dedicated to promoting fun, teaching fundamental skills, and developing an enjoyment of running that can carry through life. Team work and striving for personal improvement are emphasized. This season the MoN track team will have two formal league options to participate in (CYO League and the new Columbus League). Whether you're a serious track athlete or have never run in a formal track event, we have the appropriate level of competition for you.
Practices: Practice schedule is still TBD.
CYO League: Athletes 7 years old (by May 30th) and up are eligible to participate. The CYO season consists of 6 regular season meets and 1 Championship meet. Athletes participate in 3 of the 6 regular season meets and score high enough to qualify for Championship meet events. Meets are held on Saturdays at High Schools in Prince George's County, MD beginning at 8 AM. Competition is more advanced but prior experience is not required. The following events are held during CYO meets; (Track events) Sprints: 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters. Distance 1600 meter. Relays 400, 800 and 1600 meter. (Field events) Long Jump, Turbo Javelin, Softball Throw, Discus and Shot Put.
Columbus League: The Columbus League is replacing the "Local League" for those who have participated in the past. Like the Local League in the past, the level of competition is more suited for the beginner or less serious track athlete but is open to all athletes K-8 on the MoN Track & Field team. All Columbus League meets are on Sundays from 2-4 PM at a High School in Montgomery County. Meet events will include: Sprints: 50m (ages 4-7 only), 100m, 200m, 400, and 800m. Distance: 1600m. Field events: Long Jump, Turbo Javelin, Softball Throw, Discus, Shot Put.
The Mary of Nazareth Sports Committee is offering an 8 week long soccer skills programs for Kindergarten and 1st grade students. MoN students as well as children from member parishes are welcome to attend. During the clinic, coaches will work with players on fundamental skills, such as dribbling, running with the ball, moves and control, shooting and teamwork.
The clinic will be lead by a professional coaching team with licenses/certification from the English Football Association, European Union Football Association and US Soccer. Players will be grouped by age/ability and will focus on fundamental elements: Technical, Tactical, Social and Physical.
The cost is $125 (8 sessions).
Sessions will be Saturdays, from 9:00am to 10:30am.
Space is limited and registration is available on a first come, first served basis.
The clinic will be led by a professional coaching team with licenses/certification from the English Football Association, European Union Football Association and US Soccer. Players will be grouped by age/ability and will focus on fundamental elements: Technical, Tactical, Social and Physical.
The cost is $135 (8 sessions).
Sessions will be Wednesdays, from 3:15pm-4:45pm, starting September 13.
