Mary of Nazareth School

Academics

For over two decades Mary of Nazareth School has provided students with a rigorous and faith-filled education. Beginning in prekindergarten and continuing through eighth grade, the curriculum at Mary of Nazareth follows academic standards set forth by the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office. The core curriculum in each grade consists of religion, reading and language arts, literature, mathematics, science, and social studies. The curriculum is further enhanced by supplemental classes including Spanish, computer technology, library & media center, physical education, music, and art.

Mary of Nazareth recognizes that students learn at their own pace with a range of learning styles and modalities. Various programs have been implemented through our Resource Department to ensure student success in core curriculum areas. Small group instruction for reading and language arts in grades K-5, as well as for math in grades 4-8, affords opportunities to address individual needs, encourage critical thinking, and optimize student learning.

A variety of methods are used at Mary of Nazareth to measure student performance and effectiveness of instruction. Teachers regularly assign formal and informal assessments to help determine student progress in individual subject areas. Student report cards are issued quarterly for parents and guardians to review. Additionally, standardized testing is given annually to provide a long term view of student growth in the core curriculum areas of reading and language arts, mathematics, and religion.

With a strong curricular framework and supportive academic environment, our students learn to value individual growth while practicing mutual respect through the traditions of the Catholic faith. Mary of Nazareth is a 2011 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence with highly qualified faculty that is committed to the achievement of each student.
