#FacultyFriday Spotlight: Mrs. Megan McGregor, Kindergarten

How did you first get involved with Mary of Nazareth Catholic School?

I first got involved with MoN by applying for a teaching position and accepting the job offer to teach Kindergarten… 10 years ago! I am really glad I did, as I have enjoyed every year of teaching and always look forward to the next year.

What is your favorite subject to teach?

I enjoy teaching all subjects. I love to see how, while we teach all the subjects in Kindergarten, they can all be integrated into one another. I love to see each child become interested in different subjects.

Describe some of the people you've met and relationships you’ve built while teaching at Mary of Nazareth Catholic School.

Mary of Nazareth has allowed me to get to know so many amazing individuals. I love working with my best friend. It doesn’t get any better than that! It is because of MoN that I had the opportunity to begin working with Clair Englebrecht. First co- workers and now best buds!

When your friends/family find out that you teach at Mary of Nazareth Catholic School, what do you tell them?

I tell them that I have the best job is the world! I am teaching the minds of little ones, while they too teach me. There is always a fun story to share with my friends and family about the daily life in Kindergarten.

Who/what influenced your decision to become a teacher?

My Mom has been a teacher my whole life, and had a great impact on my interest in teaching. She is such an amazing woman and has taught me so many important life lessons. She taught me to always give and do your best. She taught me the importance of never giving up as well as sharing what you know with others. She has shown me how to share your faith with those that you know as well as those that you teach.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

During high school I played 2 instruments. I played the flute from 4th grade to 10th grade. In tenth grade I switched to playing the Bassoon, which I took on as a fun challenge to learn something new!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about going into teaching?

Teaching is the best job you could ever have because it is so very rewarding on a daily basis! You have the opportunity to inspire the love of learning in students. You are teaching the adults of the future - that is something to be proud of! If you want to be an amazing teacher it will require a significant amount of dedication, passion, time, money, and energy, but it will be the best decision you ever made!

If you weren't teaching, what would you be doing instead?

If I wasn’t teaching, I would be volunteering. I enjoy working with all different age groups. I could be rocking babies that are in the hospital for long periods of time, helping families get back on their feet through different organizations, feeding the homeless and hungry, or working with those in a retirement/nursing home setting.

What do you do when you aren't teaching?

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I also like to go shopping. Shopping for others is a personal favorite. I enjoy helping others and volunteering in a variety of ways.
